THE Alliance members ( Hapag-Lloyd, ONE and Yang Ming ) are to replace all nominal capacity 8,100-10,100 TEU ships of their Far East-Med “ MD1 “ service by larger vessels of 13,500-14,200 TEU as from April. The upgrade coincides with the implementation of their revised joint offering on the major East West trades, which was announced last December. The “ MD1 “ will start turning in 11 weeks ( one week extra ) as additional calls at Jeddah are included in the rotation on both ways. The revised Asia-Med loop will call at Qingdao, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Jeddah, Damietta, Barcelona, Valencia, Tangier, Genoa, Damietta, Jeddah, Singapore, Hong Kong, Qingdao. The “ MD1” is the third and last of the three Far East-Med loops of THE Alliance to be upgraded to the nominal capacity 13,000 TEU scale. The new “ MD1” fleet will include the nominal capacity 14,220 TEU newbuilding “ YM WARRANTY “, as well as, the 13,371 TEU “ PARIS EXPRESS “ (ex “ MSC FILLIPPA “ ).
