The MSC GÜLSÜN, first ‘MGX-24’ ship, is delivered

10th July 2019

South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries this week delivered the 22,500+ teu container vessel MSC GÜLSÜN, first in a new breed of jumbo containerships referred as 'megamax-24' type. Compared to the most recent 'megamax-23' ships, the new type is one container row wider, with otherwise similar dimensions. The added breadth gives the new generation an additional intake of 1,000 to 1,500 teu, depending upon the individual vessel design.

For MSC, the MSC GÜLSÜN, is the first ship in a newbuilding program of eleven 'megamax-24' vessels, comprising six units from Samsung and five from DSME, contracted in September 2017. The two series are slated for delivery in 2019 and into early 2020. They will be managed in-house under different ownership arrangements. The MSC GÜLSÜN is owned by China Merchants Bank and chartered to MSC under undisclosed long-term bareboat terms. ( Alphaliner )
