The Port of Rotterdam reported throughput of 240.7 million tonnes in the first six months of 2019, a new record for Europe’s busiest port. The figure represents a 3.4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2018. The Port of Rotterdam Authority said the growth was driven by container throughput, which rose to 7.5 million TEU, a 6.4 percent increase on a TEU basis compared to last year. Growth in the container sector is contributed mainly to higher import and transhipment volumes.
